It is a Buddhist school based on the teachings of the Buddha, who devoted his life to teaching the path to liberation from suffering through the development of wisdom, ethics and meditation.
This tradition focuses on renunciation and retreat in nature, inspired by the practices of the ancient forest monks in the time of the Buddha.
The Forest Tradition originated in Thailand and was revitalised in the 20th century by the master Ajahn Chah (Ajahn Sumedho’s teacher).
Monks of this tradition live in monasteries located in rural or wooded areas, where they find an ideal environment for meditation and contemplation.
With its expansion to the West, there are monasteries in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and, now, Spain, with this monastic project in L’Aragall, Aiguafreda (Barcelona).
